Built for clear & confident communication with distinctive character. With its high x-height and friendly personality, Gagnoa Core is the essential typeface for everyday cultural transmission.
Bothered by the negative portrayal of Africa in the media, I decided to create and publish on Instagram a new emoji every day of 2018 to show a different side of the continent. I named the project Zouzoukwa, which means "picture" in my mother tongue.
Zouzoukwa now provides infrastructure for African cultural expression through its app. 400+ culturally grounded stickers that export directly to WhatsApp. A community food map that transforms cultural knowledge into discoverable infrastructure. Social features that enable pack sharing and discovery.
Every sticker crystallizes something that repeats daily in African life. Meals eaten weekly. Gestures made constantly. Objects used regularly. Not historical figures or exceptional moments, but the daily life that actually constitutes cultural identity.
The food map operates on the same principle. Not tourist guides or exceptional dining yet. The spots where people actually eat, discoverable through the food that's served there. Cultural knowledge becomes infrastructure anyone can access and contribute to.
The iOS app is available now, and licensing for commercial use is being formalized.
